Local Housing
Silt is not a dusty little frontier town any longer. Silt was named for the light fine soil in the area and it prospered as a frontier town for many years. In 1915 it was the last city incorporated into Garfield County. In 1917, the last of the free Homestead land was claimed and a Post Office took up residence on the lower level of the I.O.O.F. Hall.
Today, streets are paved and the little town is growing. Valley View Hospital opened the Silt Medical Center, new Kum & Go with 24 hour gas service and fast food, a new elementary school is being built. The town continues to grow with new housing developments and business.
